TUPD Celebrates National Night Out

The Tufts University Police Department participated in the city of Medford’s first-ever National Night Out celebration on Tuesday at Hormel Stadium in collaboration with the Medford Police Department.

The Tufts University Police Department participated in the city of Medford’s first-ever National Night Out celebration on Tuesday at Hormel Stadium in collaboration with the Medford Police Department.

A new partnership between the two police departments, the event served as an opportunity for the Medford community to engage with local law enforcement for a night of celebration. The event consisted of a wide array of family-friendly activities with over thirty vendors partnering with MPD, offering freebies and fun.

Open to the public, National Night Out offered face painting, games, touch-a-truck events, a dunk tank that featured both the Mayor of Medford and the police chief, as well as a visit from Wally the Green Monster and K9 demos. Partnerships from local organizations also brought free barbeque, slush, and coffee, and a live DJ from KISS 108.

TUPD members from the Grafton Campus also celebrated NNO in collaboration with the Grafton Police Department and the Westborough Police Department, represented by TUPD Officer Blake Coleman.

This is the first time MPD has hosted an NNO event to collaborate with other groups, such as the DEA, state police, and fire department to promote community engagement. The event also marked a groundbreaking partnership between the local municipal police and TUPD, paving the way for future collaborations between the two departments.

National Night Out has been held every first Tuesday in August since 1984 as a community-police awareness-raising event in the United States. The Medford Police Department aims to continue this tradition thanks to the success of Tuesday’s event.
