Supplemental Security Force
Campus Security Officers (CSOs)
CSOs are non-sworn officers who provide valuable adjunct safety and security services. The CSOs perform various roles that are preventative in nature and support our mission of providing a safe and secure environment. They act as an extra set of eyes and ears for the patrol officers and are an additional resource to our community members. Under the supervision of the duty supervisor, CSOs patrol the buildings and grounds of the university, provide escorts and transportation for university personnel, and provide access control at various fixed points throughout the University.
Campus Security Officers are posted at various buildings on the Boston Health Sciences campus including:
- Biomedical Research and Public Health
- Arthur M. Sackler Center
- Jaharis Family Center and the Jean Mayer USDA HNRCA Building
Campus Security Officers are posted at two locations on the Boston SMFA campus:
- 160 Saint Alphonsus Street
- 230 Fenway
Incoming and new CSOs are now being cross-trained to focus on the needs of the Medford/Somerville campus and utilize specialized positions. CSO Is serve at fixed points on campus, aiding with lockouts remotely, signing in visitors, and providing directions. Those promoted to CSO II will be able to roam, providing general maintenance, security, event support, and training for new CSO hires. CSO Is wear a standard polo shirt while CSO IIs wear bright blue polo shirts.
