Comfort Dogs

A vital part of Tufts Police’s mental health resources, comfort dogs serve as a resource for students, faculty, and staff in stressful or traumatic situations. They also serve as department liaisons and attend many events on the Medford/Somerville campus. To request the TUPD comfort dogs at an event, please use the form below.

Pepper

Pepper is one of TUPD’s comfort dogs working to provide aid to community members experiencing trauma or stress on the Tufts Medford/Somerville campus. During traumatic situations, Pepper is present for all members of the community looking for solace and available for students looking for relief during times of stress. As part of a growing mental health team, Pepper supports TUPD’s approach to new and improved mental health resources. She also serves as a Public Safety liaison at campus and community events. Pepper was adopted through Hero Pups, a non-profit group in New Hampshire that rescued her litter to be trained by volunteers and professionals.

Hayley

Hayley is one of TUPD’s comfort dogs working to support members of the community in times of crisis on the Medford/Somerville campus. Originally trained by Guiding Eyes for the Blind as a seeing eye dog, Hayley has a talent for following her nose, which led her to the MA State Police Explosive Ordnance (EOD) certification program. As an EOD dog, Hayley and her handler Officer Jessica Brandon work to secure all Tufts buildings, especially during large events and visits from important individuals. After finishing her work, Hayley is available to provide support and comfort for all in need.
