What should be reported to the Tufts Police Department?

Members of the Tufts Community are strongly encouraged to promptly report all criminal and suspicious activity as well as signs of behavior that might be suspicious. Suspicious activity can include things such as someone trying to enter a residence without the proper access card, someone trying to forcibly remove a bicycle from a Tufts bike rack, or any activity suggesting foul play, danger, or illegal activity.

Taking immediate steps to report will help enhance the safety of a victim of a crime as well as others in the community. We also ask that you immediately report any type of emergency occurring on any of Tuft’s campuses to TUPD. Reports may be made on behalf of another, when, for example, the victim of a crime elects to or is unable for any reason to make such a report.

When should I report a crime?

Timely reporting of information assists the Tufts Police in intervening in potential criminal activity and apprehending suspects. Please do not delay in calling. Criminal offenses should be reported to TUPD promptly so that the Department can determine whether a Timely Warning notice is necessary and so that the information can be included in the annual disclosure of crime statistics. We are required to include information about crimes in the Annual Security Report.

How can I report a crime?

Crimes should be reported directly to TUPD either by calling 617-627-6911 or in-person at any TUPD station. Review station locations.

What happens when I report a crime?

You will be put in contact with an appropriate member of the Tufts Department of Public Safety to further assess the situation. Depending on the incident type, TUPD may be involved directly in responding or we may determine that the call for service is appropriate for a response from a Campus Security Officer or another one of our campus partners.

Do not use this site to report events presenting an immediate threat to life or property. Such reports submitted through this service may not receive an immediate response.
