A member of the public was in the area of Washington Street at approximately 3 am. They were approached by an individual described as a light skinned African-American or Hispanic male with a bald/shaved head, wearing a green jacket and a large duffel bag as if it were a backpack. The suspect lured the victim to an area in the vicinity of Kneeland Street where the incident took place. The victim notified the Boston Police Department who responded immediately. As of this time, the suspect remains unidentified.

While those who commit such crimes are fully responsible for their acts, we would like to take this opportunity to remind community members of the following precautions to help keep you safe:
  • Always remain alert to your surroundings and avoid distractions such as headphones and cell phone use.
  • Be observant of those around you.
  • Travel using well-lit and populated areas and walk with a co-worker / friend whenever possible.
  • If you think someone is following you, try to move into an area where other people are present like a store or restaurant. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  • Be aware of people trying to “piggyback” into an entrance or enter an area behind you without using their ID Badge. Also, be mindful of and use security measures that are in place, such as not propping doors open or allowing someone to enter through a secured door.
  • Program the Tufts Police Emergency Line (617-627-6911) into your cell phone to call for immediate assistance on campus. For off-campus emergencies call 911 for assistance.
  • Emergency Blue Light Call Boxes are installed throughout our campuses, which provide a direct line of communication to Public Safety’s 24-hour Dispatch Center. Please familiarize yourself with their locations.
  • Report any suspicious activity, people, circumstances, or security concerns immediately to our team. We can be reached by calling 617-627-3030 or 617-627-6911 from any on-campus phone.
